About Christopher Ross

Christopher Ross, the person behind Campground Web Designer
Christopher Ross, Campground Web Designer

My name is Christopher Ross. I started building on the web in 1996, back when a campground's online presence was a scanned brochure and a fax number, and I've been at it ever since. These days the work is less about the site itself and more about helping small businesses market themselves properly online.

A campground's website matters to the family that owns the campground exactly as much as a university's platform matters to the university. So I hold both to the same bar. The larger, more complicated projects run under my own name at thisismyurl.com, where the clients are universities, media companies, and government teams, priced for that scale. Campground Web Designer is a separate practice, built specifically for campground and RV park owners: the same craft, the same standards, three fixed sizes from $2,800, $4,500 and $7,500 USD, one payment each. See what each size includes.

Same hands, same standards, sized for a park.

You own whatever I build. The domain, the hosting account, and every file are registered in your business name rather than mine from the day the site goes live. That is not a courtesy, it's the point. A website you can't take with you is a website you're renting, and the industry has more than a few vendors happy to rent you one.

What I actually do here

I build the website. I do not build reservation software, and I'm not trying to replace whatever you already use to take deposits and assign sites. The website is the part a guest reads before they book and comes back to after: the site types, the rates, the rules, the photos, the directions that keep people from turning left at the wrong gravel road. I make sure it hands off cleanly to your booking system and I stay out of that system's way.

If it turns out your park needs a booking platform and doesn't have one, I'll tell you that plainly, and I'll tell you it isn't something you're buying from me.

Where I'm coming from

I have never run a campground. I'm not going to invent a childhood spent behind the counter of a park office to make this page warmer than it deserves to be.

What I do have is thirty years of building on the web and a lifetime on the water. I sail, seriously and often, and sailing has taught me the same thing a season teaches an owner: you make your money in a narrow window, the weather decides more than you'd like, and everything that needed fixing should have been fixed in March. That's why I push people to build in winter. It's not a sales tactic. It's the only time of year anybody in a seasonal business has the head space to do it well.

The rest I learn from you. Every park has a map, a rhythm, and a set of questions the office answers forty times a week, and those three things are most of the website. I'd rather ask than assume.

The sister site

If your park also needs help getting found in search rather than a website build, CampgroundSEO.com is the sister practice for that, run by the same person. Different job, same standards.

Common questions

Do you build reservation software?

No. I build the website and connect it cleanly to whatever you already use to take deposits and assign sites. If your park needs a booking platform, I'll tell you plainly that it isn't something you are buying from me.

Who owns the site once it is built?

You do. The domain, the hosting account and every file are registered in your business name from the day the site goes live.

Have you ever run a campground?

No, and I won't pretend otherwise. I have thirty years of building on the web and a lifetime on the water, and I learn the rest from you: your map, your rhythm, and the questions your office answers forty times a week.

How is this different from your work at thisismyurl.com?

It is a separate practice built for campground and RV park owners. The larger, more complicated projects run under my own name at thisismyurl.com, priced for that scale. Here it is the same craft and standards at a plainly stated price sized for a park.

What if I need help getting found in search instead?

That is the sister practice, CampgroundSEO.com, run by the same person.
